Party

Here are a few pics from our party last night. This first one is a tunnel that Sarah and Paul got for Ryan from Ikea. Jane and Ryan both love it!!

And here is my Dad proving that he too can fit in the tunnel.

This is the cake I made for Ryan. Almost everything that could go wrong with it, did go wrong. Like it took an hour to bake, I ran out of powdered sugar for the icing, the icing decorator broke, and even the plastic bag decorator that I resorted to broke. And basketball's are impossible to draw/ice, too many curvy lines. Anyways, I probably won't be making another basketball cake. Sorry Ryan!

Ryan liked his cake, but mostly just the icing. Can you blame him, that's the best part!

Happy Birthday Ryan!!!

Today is Ryan's First Birthday! I can't believe he's 1! It seems like it has gone by quickly, yet he is still my baby. Jane seemed much older at this age, maybe b/c she was the only kid at that point. Anyways, unfortunately for Ryan, he is sick. He caught the flu that Jane had so his tummy is not quite right. But, we've tried to make the most of the day anyways. Ryan opened presents this morning, with a lot of help from Jane!

He especially liked his balloons!

Here is Jane giving Ryan birthday kisses.

And even though I shouldn't have done this to his tummy, I gave him a mini cupcake. Because in my opinion, what is a birthday whithout a little sugar? So far, no consequences have come from this sweet treat (no "throwups" as Jane calls them).

Ryan has been the happiest baby, and I hope his happiness continues through his toddler years and beyond. I feel so lucky to have him as my kid! Happy Birthday Baby!!!

Mother's Day

I had a fabulous Mother's Day this year! Jeff (and the kids?) got me running shoes and a running watch because I am . . . dun, da, da, dah . . training to run a 5k! That's right, me who fell off a treadmill once is back on the horse and relearning how to run. And yes, some people do have to TRAIN for a 5k. Anyways, I really appreciated the gifts. I know they will help me be really really fast!

I did bouquets for gifts for my mother and mother in law this year. I did this fruit bouquet, which turned out okay, but here's how I would make it better:
1. Bigger strawberries to look more tulip-like proportionate to the grape stems.
2. String on some spinach leaves throughout the stem.
3. Cover the styrophome ball with crushed oreo dirt, and maybe a layer of pudding.

This is the cookie bouquet I have been trying to perfect for the longest time. I have the best sugar cookie recipe (the soft, sour cream kind) that I got from Crissy, who got it from my Aunt, but we still call them Crissy's sugar cookies. The problem is that the cookies are too soft and usually end up falling off the cookie sticks. SO this time I added more flour and cooked them longer, and they stayed on!! Now, they were not as soft, but still not crunchy, so they work! I just got this flower cookie cutter and it was fun to experiment with icing on such a fun shape.
*Side Note: There were a few more cookies in the bouquet in the picture, but I forgot to take the picture, so this is a day later.

I almost forgot about my other Mother's Day present I got! It came a little later (about 4:00am) when Jane came in our room and threw up everywhere (mostly in my hands as I stupidly tried to catch it). Now she totally has the flu. Oh well, what do you do. The real gift will be if Ryan doesn't get it. Here's hoping!

Swimming Pool

Jane has been begging to get out her little pool (which she calls her swimming poo). So I got it out a few days ago and we played in pretend water, but she got sick of pretend water. And since today was hot, we put real water in it. Jane and Ryan had so much fun. Ryan crawled through it first, but then realized that this is no bath water! Jane decided to clean her little chairs. I should have got more things out for her to clean! It's the teensiest thing ever, but at least they probably won't drown.

Marlboro Man

My friend Celeste got me hooked on this love story. It's the love story of city girl meets cowboy. It's like a book on line, and once you start reading, you just can't stop! You can start reading it here, but just be careful, I stayed up till 1:30 last night b/c I had to get caught up! When you go to the site, scroll down to the bottom entry to start reading. First vampires and now cowboys, thanks Celeste!
